Visit our website: www.trekkinwithmelanin.com Our daughter, Anaya, having a conversation with the taxi driver on our way home. A question often asked about this video: What is so special about this video? Any child living in another country is bound to learn the language. This video is meant to show the benefits of exposing our children to more than one language. Not everyone can SEE or WITNESS the benefits in person. Many Americans, specifically Black Americans, do not travel or see the benefits in travel or learning another language. This video is meant to INSPIRE and NOT IMPRESS. Children need positive reinforcement and praise for their accomplishments, whether it is common or not. What kind of person are you to tell a CHILD that their ABILITIES are NOTHING SPECIAL? Reasons why this is AWESOME! -Korean is one of the top 3 hardest languages for English speakers to learn. -There are many benefits to raising children that speak more than one language. Children that speak another language have overall better analytical, social, and academic skills than their monolingual peers. We put this video up as a way to show the benefits of raising your children abroad. This is meant to be a positive video to promote awareness that black people are traveling the world and our children are the products of our travels. We want to encourage others that it is possible! This video was taken 2 years ago when Anaya was 6 years old. She moved to Korea when she was 1 almost 2. Another question asked about the video: Why is "black" in the title? Why does her skin color matter? There is a common misconception that black people lack the intelligence to do great things. There is also a limited number of people of color who speak Asian languages. This is also meant to encourage others to learn other languages as opposed to the commonly learned European languages. The overall intention of the video is to inspire other little girls of color that living abroad and learning more than one language is possible.
